Details
- Producer Description: Cantine Barbera is run sisters Daniella and Marilena Barbera. They are descended from a family of grape growers but they are the first generation to bottle their production. The vineyards are located in Menfi in the west of the island, and they are working with a mixture of local and native varieties. The production is small and quality is very high. The red is made from Sicily's most important native variety, Nero d'Avola. Made without wood it shows spicy flavours but is balanced with fresh acidity and a touch of red berries on the finish. The white is made from old vines of Inzolia and has creamy texture and rich floral aromas.
- Region Description: The largest Island in the Mediterranean, Sicily is also a very important producer of volcanic wines. There are quality producers here if you scratch the surface, and a wealth of native varieties sitting alongside international varieties.
